FSXWX stops injecting new stations
#1
Hi,

I've been trying some long-haul flights the last days and experienced a problem that occurs (at least with my setup) when flying longer than approx. 2 hours. (here: KIAD -> EDDM while flying over the atlantic ocean)

As you can see in the picture below, everything works fine at the beginning, there are new stations injected as the plane moves on its route. But after ~2 hours FSXWX suddenly stops creating new stations for some reason and just updates the existing ones (until no near station is left en route i guess)
I tried it several times with the same result; working well at the beginning and stopping after ~2 hours. However, there are neither error messages nor does the program freeze. It still collects the data as you can see, there is just no injection happening any more.

I've tried 2 setups, with and w/o elevated rights for P3D and FSXWX. Failure occures identically in both scenarios.

My setup:
- Prepar3D v3.1
- FSUIPC v4.949 (latest) - without activation
- all 3 recommendet SimConnect versions installed (RTM, SP1, SP2)
- PMDG 777
- some addon-scenery (only airports up to now)

I would gladly send you a logfile if I could find one :-) If your program creates sth. like that or has a 'verbose' function, tell me and I'll send you everything I can collect.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, it's strange, indeed.
For some unknown reason it really looks like no weather injections were made after 02:14 any more.
I will do a KIAD-EDDM flight myself within the next days and have a look.

Yesterday, I made a trans-atlantic flight but - "unfortunately" - did not have the problem you mentioned.

I only could imagine one really really unlikely reason, why you ran out of weather stations and this would be as follows:

FSXWX creates new stations only before the "all injection" (see log 02:06). However, the all injection is only executed when multiple requirements are met which are:
1.) distance flown > x
2.) last injection time > y
3.) altitude > z
AND
4.) flight path is steady (because the all injection especially is disturbing during turn)
5.) last user input (mouse & keyboard) is at least 3 seconds ago (so that the injection does not disturb you when you are interacting with the sim)

So, theoretically: If you are "stepping out of the cockpit" and using the computer (continuously) for other things, FSXWX would not execute an all injection. ... are you?

Hi again,

and thank you very much for the quick response!
And the good news is, with your last hint I could sort out the problem.

I was conducting several test flights the last days with varying results on when FSXWX stopped injecting new stations and couldn't make sense of those. But your last hint (No 5) led to the solution -> it was all about my joystick...

When just leaving it alone during cruise I could see an ongoing jitter around the neutral position in the calibration tool. So to my understanding your tool interprets this as input, thus keeping it from injecting new stations.

The solution was quite easy then: I just unplug my joystick now during cruise and everything works well. (I did some testing with various settings for dead-zones, but none was convincing...)

So again, thank you for your help!!!

ps: I hope you can understand the tenor of my writing since I'm from Germany and my english is - well - a little rusty/poor :-)

Hi,

glad to hear this. And thanks for the investigation: it's a really interesting observation!

Indeed, I checked the function and the joystick is also interpreted as user input. Thus, the jitter is/was the problem.

It's maybe worth to change/fine-tune this in a future version, because I think it is not that uncommon for other users, too.

Viele Grüße, bin auch aus D.
