FSX Freezing With PMDG Aricraft After 5-6 Hours
#1
Ever since I started doing long hauls with FSXWX and the PMDG 777, I realised that my sim would start freezing at intervals of about 5 seconds (runs for 5 sec, pauses for 5 sec, runs for 5 sec etc.) after flying for about 5-6 hours. It may be worth mentioning that I only have the free version of FSUIPC so I don't think autosave would be the cause of this. I have also realised that if I close Vpilot (I fly on Vatsim) after the freezing starts, the sim goes back to normal but then Vpilot won't allow me to connect to FSX again which is annoying. Another (probably obvious) observation I have is that this only happens when I have internet connection. I was flying at a friend's house and I couldn't connect to his Wifi so I used my phone's hotspot to reload the FSXWX weather every 30-60 minutes so that I wouldn't be stuck with the same weather for the whole flight. No freezing ocurred. This has lead me to believe that the problem is being caused by FSXWX loading/re-injecting weather over a certain period of time. This doesn't happen on any other aircraft apart from the PMDG 737 and 777. I have no clue how to fix this issue and any help would be appreciated.

Having the exact same issue.

I am looking into this.
But due to the fact that you say that it occurs ONLY with PMDG aircraft and FSXWX does not have any interface/connection/whatsoever to the aircraft, it is highly unlikely that FSXWX is the root cause.

I have just completed an KORD-EDDF flight with the PMDG B77L in real-time (~8h) with FSXWX running all the way without any abnormality.

Although it does not exactly match your problem description, maybe, you can have a look at the 'mysterious' P3D-PMDG-after-several-hours-freezing phenomena, which is not fully understood yet, as far as I know.
Actually, I was affected from this issue, too. However, reducing the MESH_RESOLUTION to 21 and TEXTURE_RESOLUTION to 25 (default values) helped (... which could be pure coincidental because it is not explainable).

Here is some information:

Oh, I just realized that you mentioned FSX as your sim.
Then, the PMDG-freezing-issue is probably not related to your problem at all.

I have also noticed this issue and i dont think its the PMDG aircrafts. I use FSX and ive noticed it sometimes. I havent tried a longhaul to see if it happens but if i do a chain of flights usually 2 or 3 i notice that eventually the issue happens and im forced to cancel the flight completely because it seems disconnecting or even closing FSXWX doesnt stop the constant 5 sec pauses. At first i thought it was by having too many programs open that connects through FSUIPC (free version), so i reduced to that to 2 maximum (i should probably try with only FSXWX connected), then i thought it was by letting my aircraft sit for a while at airports while i change flights, but alas even if i spend as little time as possible and take off fine, it just randomly starts happening mid flight. For an example, i did a flight from KMSP to KMCI, about 1 hour, landed and sat at the gate for maybe 30 minutes while i change flight plan, fuel etc. then i changed the Dep and Dst on FSXWX to KMCI and KDEN, all went well, took off fine, and about 10 or 20 minutes into the flight it starts the constant pausing thing

Update to my previous post, i had fsx start freezing on me every 5 seconds again on a 4 hour flight and i discovered that, doing a weather reload fixes the issue. Maybe you can try that @Melon088 if you get and freezing again.

Same thing happens to me in P3dv3, i think your problem might be, when the program updates the weather, it puts the plane into slew mode, but when it finishes it doesnt remove slew mode for some reason which is a bit annoying. So if it freezes again check under options if slew mode is enabled.

Having the same issue with the PMDG 777, too. Even on shorter flights...

Hi, I have to say I have the exact same problem too, every 12 minutes for a few seconds it freezes with PMDG737ngx from the first 30 minutes.
After looking at the log file (which btw would be helpful if it's saved into a file instead of just on the screen) I noticed this happens when ALL stations are updated.
Maybe a solution would be that, like in an other freeware I'm testing right now, the update has a delay of xxx ms between stations so it wouldn't continuously reserve all the resources just to update weather stations. Also, are you updating the weather stations in FSX directly from the internet server? If so, maybe it would be helpful to store it first on a local temp file on the FSX system and then copying it into the weather stations?
To me it's really annoying to have this freeze every 12 minutes and hope this can be solved if not I will have to move to the other (less interesting) free weather program which never gives an issue updating weather stations.
Cheers,
Luc

This is due to your 'yes' setting in the EZdok global enable field. I just realized this when answering your other question.

Usually during shorter flights FSX freezes for maybe half a second while new weather conditions seem to be injected. Last weekend I tried EDDF to OMDB with the PMDG 777 two times. Both times the sim froze over the south of Turkey so often, that by the time I shut it down the freezes have summed up to a total of 25 Minutes (I could tell that by the difference between sime time and real time).

During the week I did a few short test flights like EDDF to LIMC and vice versa. Short freezes accoured on the outbound flight with FSXWX on but not on the return flight where I just used the FSX default weather. So yesterday I tried EDDF to OMDB again with FSX default weather and FSX didnt even have a small hiccup.

Thanks to all for reporting. I will try to find out what's the problem here with FSXWX.

I had the same issue with the NGX from ENGM-GCLP, somewhere over Spain it got so bad I had to abort the flight. On a second flight from ENGM-ESSA, using FSX default weather, there were no glitches. FWIW, I had also added my ADES and Alternate to FSXWX as well for the GCLP flight.

I do not have the most powerful system, so thought it might be that, but my settings are adjusted to allow for that, only thing I changed was cloud details and other settings, as per the FSXWX website, but didn't change those back when I used the FSX default weather.

Thanks, admin, I see that you are on the issue, but thought I would mention that I am having the problem as well. And thanks for a great FREE app, it gave me remarkably accurate wx departing ENGM, just a pity about the issue later on in the flight.

I was doing exactly the same flight, ENGM -- GCLP, and the game started to freeze somewhere over Spain! I was so angry because the flight continued for 4 hours and I was not intending to abort the flight. I tried to close the client, and I did it, however when I reopened the client the weather rejected to load. Please, find a solution! This programme is way too good to have negative issue such as this one.

Can somebody with this problem give me the EXACT DATA (flight plan, departure data/time and fsx.cfg/prepar3d.cfg config) of that flight (ENGM-GCLP) that crashed after some hours?

Maybe, I can then reproduce this annoying bug what I haven't archived so far...

First, thanks for a wonderful program! I have used it for probably over a year with great success, however, I have also started to experience this freezing problem with the PMDG 777.
At first I thought it was a PMDG issue (partially could be) however, it only ever freezes with FSXWX. I have recently done 2 long haul flights (8+hrs) with no freezing using default real world weather. With FSXWX it is very random but usually will freeze up after 3 hrs. Closing FSXWX usually fixes the freeze albeit the weather disappears. Re-starting FSXWX during flight doesn't work.
I can't give exact data since it is completely random but I can confirm it happens on every long haul flight I have tried.
Not sure if any of this helps.

I know I am pretty late to the party, like really late but just thought I would chime in here. I have the exact same issue, but i don't use PMDG. I use Captain SIM 777 and everything mentioned above matches my experience. So I really don't think its an issue with the PDMG. Also I use FSX.

Has a permanent fix been found to this bug cause it really sucks. when I try to reload the weather FSXWX won't connect again and I have to use other shady wx engines

I'd like to add that the sim freezing isn't just with payware aircraft, it's with the default aircraft too. I've been doing several flights on the default B737-800 over Southeast Asia and the sim keeps on freezing every 5 seconds once I've reached cruising altitude. I also use the fast forward feature on the sim and that seems to make it worse. Any update on this bug?
